Orthotics Bracing Footwear - Orthotics Bracing SportsMed

Do I need a referral to see the Orthotist?
No. A referral is not necessary unless you want to see the Orthotist under a compensable body such as WorkCover, TAC, Dept of Veterans Affairs or the State-wide Equipment Program (Victorian Aids and Equipment Program).  However, it is beneficial to provide a comprehensive model of care and include other health professionals that you see including your General Practitioner (GP).

What if my GP is referring me under the Chronic Disease Management Program in Medicare?  Can I see the Orthotist as one of my 5 visits?
If your GP would like to include the Orthotist as a member the the GP Management Plan (Item 721) then he/she can and the Orthotist can be invited as a member under a Team Care Arrangement (Item 723).  However, at this time, Medicare has not included orthotists in the rebatable system (formerly Enhanced Primary Care).  While this is still the case, the Orthotist will provide an initial consultation Free under this scheme. You can get your GP or Practice Nurse to contact the office to clarify.

Can I claim on my extras for Private Health insurance?
If you have Orthotics cover under your extras, then you may use your health fund to claim a percentage of the orthotic's costs. Each fund varies with rebates, so check with your health fund. You will may require a referral from your GP  to claim.  We have provider numbers with many of the health insurance funds as we are full members of the Australian Orthotic and Prosthetic Association.  Private health refunds must be claimed back through your fund.  We do not provide HICAPS at the time of visit.
